These states have the most expensive Thanksgiving turkeys in 2024

Don’t let turkey eat away at your Thanksgiving budget.

Those looking to get a good buzz for it SHOTS must leave Hawaii – the home of the most expensive birds in the United States.

That’s according to a recent survey by Finance Buzz, which crunched prices from grocery stores across the country to estimate how much shoppers in each state can expect to pay — on average — for fall poultry this time around.

First, the good news – while inflation is reported to have pushed up the prices of other foods in 2024, turkey prices are reported to be down 12% overall from a year ago, according to the hot-out-of-the-oven survey.

That surely comes as little consolation to anyone living in Hawaii, where the festive feather bag costs $52.85 for a 15-pound specimen – 70% above the national average of $31.16.

Alaska, meanwhile, ranks second — residents of the Last Frontier can expect to pay an average of $44.85 per gobbler.

The excessive prices of non-contiguous countries can be attributed to the costs of transporting goods to those distant regions.

The 48-year-old Californian boasted the most expensive T-day centers at $39.85.

Connecticut, Montana and New Jersey tied for fourth place – $36.85 for all three states.

New York turkeys also cost a wing and a wing, at $35.85.

That puts the Empire State in sixth place when it comes to bankruptcy-tempting members of the dinosaur family tree.
