In these airports, IPA stands for “Insanely Expensive Ale.”
Fancy a cold one before your flight? You may want to avoid these New York airports, which are among the most expensive in America when it comes to buying a beer.
A new study from Finance Buzz analyzed “regular-sized” domestic macrobrands — such as Budweiser and Coors — at the 50 busiest U.S. airports to determine which ones charge the most.
This study comes as the average price of an airport beer has increased by 21%. dancing from $7.42 in 2023 to $8.97 today due to inflation.
The newly renovated LaGuardia International Airport topped the list with a regular domestic beer costing $13.83 — 54% higher than the national airport average.
Beer drinkers won’t be upset knowing they can buy almost an entire case of beer for that price.
A 24-pack of Bud Light and Miller Lite beers costs an average of $16.72 in New York state, according to a separate 2024 study — less than $3 more than the price of a single beer at LaGuardia.
In 2021, the company that operates restaurants and shops at the airport went bust selling a Sam Adams Summer Ale for $27.85.
Meanwhile, the Finance Buzz report found that San Francisco International Airport ($12.61) and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport ($11.99) had the second and third most expensive beers, respectively.
John F. Kennedy International Airport came in fourth with an average beer price of $11.82, according to the survey.
Rounding out the top five was Hawaii’s Honolulu International Airport, where airport bar hounds pay an average of $11.21 for a glass of regular malt.
Newark Liberty International Airport ranked 9th with $10.41 beers, making NYC the only city served by multiple airports to make the top ten.

Of course, not every traveler needs to break the bank by hitting up a traveler’s taphouse as many flight centers serve beer at more reasonable prices.
At the 10 airports with the least expensive beers, passengers can expect to pay a full dollar less than the national average of $8.97.
Salt Lake City International Airport in Salt Lake City, Utah, which serves the least expensive beer at just $6.41 – less than half of what a glass costs at LaGuardia, would be nice to get to the international airport of Salt Lake City.
The average price of a beer in Utah’s airport is 29% lower than the national average.
The next most affordable airports in terms of airport are Portland International Airport in Oregon ($6.81), Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Meyers, Florida ($7.29) and New Orleans International Airport in Louisiana ($7 .31 dollars).
